John Sculley coined the term PDA for it while Steve Jobs was out of the company. Too expensive against a paper day planner, an awkward size — not pocketable, not big enough for real work — and roasted publicly for handwriting recognition they had clearly over-promised. Jobs came back and killed it outright rather than iterate.
“Dude, if you paid $6,000 for this, you'd be pissed. Where's the games, dude?”
