Speeed’s take
The clearest loss in the test. The 1970s pair weighs 594g against 384g today, with noticeably heavier canvas and a heel backing stitched from the outside. Modern soles are thicker and squishier — which some will prefer, and which is not what a Chuck is for. The vintage pair costs about the same in real terms.
“Clean white canvas shoes always look good. Dirty white canvas shoes look good most of the time. Chucks and Vans Authentics are all really cheap, timeless examples.”
“This shoe feels cheap. And there is a difference between feeling simple and feeling cheap.”
