Tim Leatherman spent the seventies fixing an old Fiat across Europe with only a pocket knife, wishing he had pliers. He prototyped for years, knife companies passed, and the Pocket Survival Tool finally shipped in 1983. Against the original, the modern Wave+ gives up nothing — one of the few products in the test that held its ground outright.
